Impact Wrestling attempted to get a big name fighter to work a program with a fellow UFC star.
Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that ex-UFC and Bellator MMA fighter Chael Sonnen had discussions with Impact to come in and feud with Ken Shamrock, but ultimately decided against it.
Outside of pro wrestling, Shamrock had a successful career in MMA by competing for various promotions including the UFC and Bellator.
Shamrock just wrapped up a feud with Eddie Edwards as they wrestled at last month’s Bound for Glory pay-per-view event. This was the same night that he was inducted into their Hall of Fame and even had his induction speech done by The Rock.
Shamrock is slated to challenge Rich Swann for the World Title on the November 24 episode of Impact on AXS TV.
Sonnen decided to retire from MMA last June after losing to Lyoto Machida at Bellator 222. He does have some ties to pro wrestling as he announced as part of Global Force Wrestling in 2015.
Sonnen claimed that several years ago WWE offered him $5 million to bring UFC title to Raw and $1 million to no-show his fight against Anderson Silva.
