Impact Wrestling’s days on Pop TV are numbered. That became apparent when the network moved them to the late-night 10 pm timeslot on Thursday nights and the ratings have seen a big drop since the move.
However, if things work out as they hope, Impact could end up on a stronger network in 2019. Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Impact is shopping for a new network and there have been talks with WGN America, Tru TV, and SyFy. The SyFy news is interesting because that channel is part of NBCUniversal along with the USA Network.
The belief is that Impact can keep their deal with Pop after their contract is up at least into the first quarter of 2019 while they look for a new home.
Impact’s in-ring product has been really good this year but the issue is that budget costs have meant a decrease in production quality and they don’t have a ton of major names signed.
Hopefully, things can turn around for them in 2019. It is difficult for wrestling companies to get a good paying TV deal and the ratings pattern (especially in 2018) is not going to do any favors for Impact.
