Kurt Angle was on Ariel Helwani's The MMA Hour this week to promote the Bobby Lashley vs. Kurt Angle world title match. The match airs tomorrow night at 9pm eastern on Impact Wrestling on Destination America. This would be the first time Lashley and Angle have wrestled each other.
Kurt didn't directly talk about the rumors from last year about WWE declining to sign him but he said the following when Ariel asked him what was behind the decision to stay with TNA:
"They gave me everything I wanted and more, and that's why I stayed. They were very loyal. I can't do enough to repay them. The old man can still go, but not as many nights per year."
Kurt signed a new deal with TNA in December and his new deal is a part-time deal for 40 dates. His current deal is for one year. Helwani asked if Kurt, 46, will continue wrestling or hang up the boots after this run:
"You know i've been debating. I think it's time for me to hang it up. If I do go one more year, that will be it." Kurt said that he's ok going out the way he's doing it and he's had a great career in WWE and TNA and feels that he's had a better career in TNA. Helwani asked him if it bothers him that many fans don't realize that he's had his best matches in TNA. Kurt said it bothered him at first but he's fine with it.
Kurt added, "I feel good about going out with TNA. If I decide to go to WWE next year then that will be my last year. Right now i'm happy where I am."
On Brock Lesnar: "I think he's gonna fight again." He said he thinks Brock has a lot left in the tank and can do some damage now that he's healthy.
Kurt also talked about how close he was to signing with WWE, the Daniel Puder incident, CM Punk going to UFC, and more. Check out Ariel's interview with Kurt below:
