Latest on creative issues between Sammy Guevara and Impact

More details continue to come out regarding the situation between Sammy Guevara and Impact Wrestling.

The AEW star was pulled from last week’s Impact Wrestling tapings with the idea of him working for the promotion after he quit Chris Jericho’s Inner Circle faction. He didn’t like the creative direction and was later informed by Chris Jericho to go home after he expressed criticism.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Guevara isn’t expected to return to Impact.

One story that Meltzer couldn’t confirm was Guevara being part of a six-man tag on next week’s show where the winning team would move on to a three-way match for an X-Division Title shot. The match in question would’ve seen him team with Ace Austin and Chris Bey against Willie Mack, Josh Alexander, and Trey Miguel. Now, Austin and Bey will team with Black Taurus instead.

Guevara suggested winning the X-Division Title then returning to AEW with it. The idea was also to see him never lose the title, but rather, he would’ve been stripped of it with the vacant title being up for grabs in a tournament.

Meltzer did confirm the AEW star was supposed to win three matches at the Impact tapings while Jericho and Don Callis came up with the initial angle idea. Guevara was only scheduled for that set of tapings.

Meltzer said, “Impact was really mad about AEW sending talent over, putting plans in place and then the talent wouldn’t do what was planned. Everything appears to be smoothed over now, but there are those in Impact who said that the company was not happy at first with how it went down and could have impacted relationships.”

Guevara did poke fun at the false rumors that he had heat with AEW over the situation in a recent blog.
