What’s next for Chris Jericho in NJPW right now is not known.
Jericho did beat Hiroshi Tanahashi at today’s Wrestle Kingdom 14 event in a singles match. The stipulation for the match was that Tanahashi would get an AEW title shot if he could beat Jericho.
The match was set up when Jericho issued a challenge as the Painmaker to Tanahashi in November.
Jericho took part in the post-show press conference. Here are a couple of highlights from Jim Valley:
“The forbidden door is closed, but I don’t think it needs to be closed.” Put aside all of the hurt feelings and egos.”
Valley noted that Jericho, “Doesn’t know when he’ll be back in Japan, but expects he’ll be on next year’s Wrestle Kingdom. Chris Jericho says goodbye in Painmaker style.”
What we do know is that Jericho has a contract with NJPW outside of his current deal with AEW. While AEW and NJPW do not have a working relationship, Jericho can work for NJPW as long as those dates do not conflict with his schedule in AEW.
Jericho’s previous NJPW match was at Dominion back in June, where he lost to Okada.Click here for complete results from NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 14.
