Chris Jericho looking to challenge for IWGP Heavyweight Title next

Although Chris Jericho wasn’t successful in retaining the latest gold he held in NJPW, he’s already planning to get his hands on some more gold.

Jericho lost the IWGP Intercontinental Title to Tetsuya Naito at the Wrestle Kingdom 13 event on January 4, 2019 at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan. This comes after the fact that he held onto the belt for nearly eight full months.

While speaking with the media after the match, he talked about his focus has shifted towards the IWGP Heavyweight Title which is currently held by Hiroshi Tanahashi.

“I just lost the belt I took from Naito in June last year. It is a big mistake if you think that the time with me and New Japan Pro Wrestling will be over.” Jericho expressed. “I’ve kept the Intercontinental belt for the longest in 2018. So let me tell you, I want to challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight belt, unreasonable or not.”

For those who didn’t see the match, it was turned into a No DQ contest and was an all-out battle that saw Jericho leave with nasty bruises on his ribcage and back thanks to Naito. He showed off that when he wrote the following on his official Instagram account:

“#WrestlingIsFake…??? @njpw1972 #JerichoVsNaito2 #WrestleKingdom13.”
