CM Punk responds to Will Ospreay’s title match challenge

Earlier this month, Will Ospreay, who is the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, issued a match challenge for his title to CM Punk during a press conference.

Fans may remember that when Punk made an appearance on the Swing & Mrs. podcast last March, he noted that he would be interested in wrestling Ospreay, but a lot of things would have to line up perfectly to make it a reality.

Fast forward to this week when Punk spoke with Stephanie Chase of Digital Spy for a new interview, he addressed the possible match.

“I don't want to give people false hope in answering Ospreay. But he's for sure somebody that I've never wrestled before that interests me a lot more than, I guess, the corporate side of professional wrestling nowadays.”

Punk continued by stating, “new and different things are going to interest me more than doing the same old, same old. I always need new goals. I don't know. Let's see if he has it at the end of the summer and then ask me the question again."

This comes after Punk stated in a recent interview that not only is he not interested in wrestling Triple H should he ever return to WWE, but doesn't believe the wrestling world necessarily needs him.

For Ospreay, he’s slated to defend the IWGP World Heavyweight Title against Shingo Takagi at night two of NJPW Wrestling Dontaku on May 4th.
