Former WWE star slated to challenge for IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Titles

It didn’t take long for KENTA to challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight Title.

New Japan Pro Wrestling announced on their website the main event for the New Beginning event in Osaka on February 9th.

Tetsuya Naito will be defending both the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Titles against KENTA at this show.

On Saturday on the second night of Wrestle Kingdom 14, Naito beat Kazuchika Okada to win the IWGP Heavyweight Title. Following the match, KENTA attacked Naito to end the show by hitting the Go 2 Sleep and sat on top of Naito while holding the titles.

At New Year Dash the next night, KENTA once again attacked Naito following a tag team bout.

As of this writing, no other bouts have been announced yet for the New Beginning in Osaka event.

KENTA made his promotional debut at the NJPW Dominion event in Osaka, Japan last year. This comes after it was reported that Itami asked and received his WWE release in February 2019.
