Kazuchika Okada retains IWGP Heavyweight Championship, main event set for night 2 of NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 14

In an excellent main event at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 14 (night 1), Kazuchika Okada defeated Kota Ibushi to retain the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

It wasn’t easy for Okada because he had to deliver several consecutive Rainmaker clotheslines to get the win in a match that went almost 40 minutes. Okada’s reign will continue for at least one more night because he has to defend the title tomorrow night against Intercontinental Champion Tetsuya Naito.

Naito walked out and told Okada that he plans on walking out as the double champion tomorrow night during night 2 of Wrestle Kingdom 14 at the Tokyo Dome. Naito left and then Okada gave his traditional post-match speech for the crowd. He thanked Ibushi for giving him the fight of his life. In regards to tomorrow’s main event, he said he is the strongest IWGP Heavyweight Champion of all time and he closed out by thanking the fans for attending the best pro wrestling in the world.
