Latest on NJPW’s new United States television deal

New Japan Pro Wrestling went through 2020 without a television deal in the United States.

In December 2019, it was revealed the television deal between AXS TV and NJPW would come to an end as the promotion announced they would not be airing any TV content in the United States for the year.

Fast forward to the announcement by the promotion earlier this month at Wrestle Kingdom 15 that they have struck a new television deal with an American broadcaster. However, they didn’t reveal the network that they signed a new deal with or when it would start.

It appears that this deal will not be a game-changer for NJPW. Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that NJPW will not be on a major network.

“Obviously the TV deal still hasn’t been finalized although the announcement could come at any time when it is. I’ll just say that it’s not something people would consider major.”

During recent events, NJPW has had their commentators make remarks regarding the color purple. This has caused fans to speculate this could be a hint regarding the new deal. The announcement presented by NJPW regarding the deal also had a purple tint. A few streaming networks feature purple such as Pluto TV, Roku, Twitch, HBO Max.
