Mercedes Mone To Defend Strong Women’s Title at NJPW Resurgence Event

Mercedes Mone is set to defend her NJPW Strong Women’s Championship at the upcoming Resurgence event on May 9th, as officially announced by NJPW on Tuesday.

The event in Ontario, California, will see Mone face the winner of a number one contender’s match scheduled for Windy City Riot on April 11th, featuring a showdown between Mina Shirakawa and AZM. This marks Mone’s return to NJPW action since her win at Wrestle Dynasty in the Tokyo Dome on January 5th.

Mone’s last NJPW appearance saw her successfully retain the Strong Women’s Championship and capture the RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Championship in a victory over Mina Shirakawa. Mone has held the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship since she went over Stephanie Vaquer at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view in June last year.

The Resurgence event is scheduled to stream live on NJPW World from the Toyota Arena in Ontario, California, on Friday, May 9th.
