Every January, NJPW has several talent contracts due at the end of January, with talks starting around this time. 2025 has been no different for the promotion.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that several wrestlers have their contracts coming up. Deals coming due have sometimes led to mass departures from the company. This has put them in the spot of needing to create stars.
Per the report, they spoke with talent that said “they always feel it’s a concentrated effort on NJPW’s part to approach talent late and just ahead of when they would be free agents.” One person close to the process stated they believe the promotion does it “when talents are arriving to Japan and preparing for Wrestle Kingdom strategically.”
Some of the names that have their contracts coming due include top wrestlers such as Gabe Kidd and David Finlay.
