Opening round matches set for NJPW New Japan Cup Night 1 event

NJPW (New Japan Pro Wrestling) has announced the first round matches for the first New Japan Cup event that is scheduled to take place at the event on March 8th inside Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. The tournament will take place over the course of 12 events from March 8 to March 24.

The winner of this tournament will receive an opportunity to challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at the G1 Supercard in Madison Square Garden. The current champion is “Switchblade” Jay White.

The promotion will air these events live on NJPW World, which is their streaming service, with live English commentary. Here are the first round matches:

– New Japan Cup Opening Round Match: Yuji Nagata v. Tomohiro Ishii

– New Japan Cup Opening Round Match: Tomoaki Honma v. Taichi

– New Japan Cup Opening Round Match: Manabu Nakanishi v. YOSHI-HASHI

– Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Togi Makabe, Kazuchika Okada and Hiroshi Tanahashi v. Rysuku Taguchi, Colt Cabana, Michael Elgin and Shota Umino

– SHO, Hirooki Goto and Kota Ibushi v. Shingo Takagi, SANADA and Tetsuya Naito

BUSHI and EVIL v. TAKA Michinoku and Zack Sabre Jr.

– Toru Yano, Toa Henare and Satoshi Kojima v. Davey Boy Smith Jr., Lance Archer and Minoru Suzuki

– Rocky Romero, Mikey Nicholls and Will Ospreay v. Taiji Ishimori, HIKULEO and Bad Luck Fale
