Shingo Takagi wins vacant IWGP World Heavyweight Championship
On Monday morning, New Japan Pro Wrestling held its Dominion 2021 event from the Osaka-jo Hall in Osaka, Japan that was headlined by Kazuchika Okada vs. Shingo Takagi for the vacant IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.
The back and forth match saw them do some near falls towards the finish of the bout. In the end, Takagi landed a sliding forearm for the win to capture the vacant title.
The reason the title became vacant is due to Will Ospreay having to relinquish it as a result of suffering from a neck injury. His last match saw him beat Shingo Takagi on May 4th to retain the title. There’s still no word yet on exactly how long he will be out of action. Okada had been scheduled to face Ospreay for the title at Wrestle Grand Slam at the Tokyo Dome on Saturday, May 29th, but that was nixed.

Hiromu Takahashi opened the show with a promo where he talked about how he’s recovering well and has plans to challenge for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title when he returns.
