Tetsuya Naito Wins NJPW G1 Climax 33 Tournament

The NJPW G1 Climax 33 Tournament is in the books as the finals took place on Sunday, with Tetsuya Naito coming out on top.

He outlasted the field and beat Kazuchika Okada in the finals with the finish seeing Naito go over with Destino.

Because of this win, he holds the G1 briefcase that gives him the right to challenge for the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion at Wrestle Kingdom 18 on January 4, 2024, a title that is currently held by SANADA.

Naito made it to the finals after winning the D Block in the round-robin action with a 5-2 record, with his only losses coming to Shane Haste and Jeff Cobb. In the quarterfinals, he went over Hikuleo and Will Ospreay in the semifinals before beating Okada in the finals of the tournament.

This gives Naito his third G1 Climax Tournament win, while it was the first time he’s won the tournament in six years.
