New Japan Pro Wrestling has posted an update on Hiromu Takahashi, following the scary bump he took on his neck during his match with Dragon Lee at the G1 Special in San Francisco show on Saturday night.
The promotion announced that he is still hospitalized due to a neck injury and he is currently undergoing tests but the good news is that he is conscious and he has been able to sit up and talk.
It was first reported on Sunday by Dave Meltzer that the belief among NJPW officials is that Takahashi broke his neck after taking a Phoenix Plex. The move was not executed as planned because, for some reason, Lee let go of him early. Takahashi still finished the match but he collapsed once he got backstage. The official update on the NJPW website did not specify the severity of the neck injury.
IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega sent out well wishes to Takahashi.
Omega said, “As everyone may know, “Kenny Omega” isn’t an LIJ guy whatsoever, but there’s no mistaking that Hiromu was one of, if not, our company’s brightest current/future star. Let’s pray for his recovery. #njpw”
