Very interesting name being considered to replace Don Callis in NJPW

A very interesting name has come up in the discussions on the replacement for Don Callis as the announcer for New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that it looks like Callis will not be back, something that has been speculated by fans in recent weeks because he wasn’t at the King Of Pro Wrestling show. He also hasn’t been called for any future shows but this could just be an issue with miscommunication after he pulled out of the last three days of the G-1 tournament due to his work with Impact Wrestling.

Believe it or not, Lanny Poffo has been considered as a replacement but the word is that it would be a one-time deal because the idea is to have a rotation of color commentators through the end of the year.

It would be interesting to hear how Poffo would call NJPW’s product because he doesn’t have a history with the promotion. I have no idea if he keeps up with the NJPW product but he has said on his podcast that he doesn’t follow wrestling as much these days.

Jim Ross’ name has also come up for Wrestle Kingdom 13 with the idea being that they would use the live feed on AXS instead of doing the voiceovers in the studio. Ross is not confirmed but there are discussions taking place.
