Former MLW World Champion Alexander Hammerstone recently provided candid insight into his previous departure from Major League Wrestling and his relationship with CEO Court Bauer.
Speaking with Fightful, Hammerstone revealed a period of “turmoil” but also detailed how their connection was ultimately mended, paving the way for his return. Hammerstone admitted his exit from MLW was initially fraught with frustration, particularly because of the close bond he felt he had developed with Bauer.
“It’s no secret that on my exit from the company, we went through a bit of turmoil,” Hammerstone stated. “It was extremely frustrating because I did feel that me and Court had built a certain level of relationship, and I felt like it was falling apart. So not only was it, ‘Oh, you’re leaving your job,’ but for someone who’s almost become something of a father figure and a mentor in my life, I was [thinking], he’s gone too.” However, before his departure was finalized, the two were able to address their issues. “We were able to work out that exit,” Hammerstone explained.
“On the last shows there, we sat down and we had some serious moments together and aired our grievances. We got a chance to apologize for where we went wrong because no situation comes like that without both people making some mistakes… and I’m not ignorant to the fact that I made some.” Crucially, Bauer continued to maintain contact even after Hammerstone left MLW and while he was dealing with an injury. “Then over the next year when I was away from the company, to have him go out of his way to maintain a relationship was awesome,” Hammerstone shared. “When I was out with the injury… Court was checking in just seeing how I was doing and making sure I was in a good head space. It was really cool to rebuild that relationship.”
This renewed connection made his recent return to MLW an easy decision. “So when the opportunity came of, ‘Hey, would you be interested in doing some work together again? We would love to have you back.’ It was a no-brainer,” Hammerstone concluded.
