Andrade has become the new WWC Universal Champion, defeating Xavant at WWC Lockout on Saturday night. The event took place at the Cancha Pepín Cestero in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, marking a triumphant return to the ring for the star.
Just hours before the show, Andrade revealed a development regarding his status. He announced that his lawyer had received a signed letter from WWE granting him approval to perform at the event, despite currently being under a 12-month non-compete clause. Andrade clarified that this clearance was specific to this show only.
WWC celebrated the victory on social media, writing: “ANDRADE IS A CHAMPION IN HIS RETURN TO THE RING. Andrade El Idolo has returned to the rings tonight in the event of the Puerto Rican company, WWC, Lockout, beating Xavant to become the NEW WWC Universal Champion.”
Andrade Adds More Gold
This victory marks Andrade’s second world title win since his departure from WWE. He previously captured The Crash Heavyweight Championship in October. The WWC Universal Championship boasts a rich history dating back to 1982. With this win, Andrade becomes the 50th wrestler to hold the prestigious title, which has changed hands 165 times.
The record for the most reigns is held by company founder Carlos Colón, who has 26 reigns totaling nearly 4,000 days as champion. Following him are Ray González with 24 reigns and over 2,000 days, and Colón’s son Carlito, who ranks third with 17 reigns and more than 1,300 days as champion.
