Big Damo: ‘Leon Slater Is Someone Who We Are Going To Be Talking About For Decades’

The following was issued to us:

Big Damo on Luke Jacobs, Axel Tischer, Leon Slater and more!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Speaking with SLTD Roundtable Podcast on their new “Strong Style Archives” show on  Hooked On Wrestling TV (https://hookedonwrestling.tv/programs/ssa-episode-1-big damo), Big Damo (formerly Killian Dain in WWE) names long term rival Luke Jacobs as  potentially the next Gunther, his thoughts on being currently the only PROGRESS Triple  Crown, Leon Slater and his hugely successful tag team with Axel Tischer.

Damo had a five-year stint in WWE under the NXT brand and on the main roster, the bulk of which was with the faction Sanity with Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe (now Axel Tischer) and Nikki  Cross.

“I’m a former WWE talent, it got a lot of attention [Winning the PROGRESS World  Championship] and I think it blew the office away. I thought I would be in PROGRESS for a  couple of shows, give them a bit of my experience and knowledge. Effectively that was the deal.  I ended up having a really good relationship with the people that were there.”

Strong Style Archives is covering the history of the PROGRESS Atlas Championship. Initially a belt for wrestlers over the Cruiserweight limit it has since become open to all.

“The whole Atlas run was awesome, it started with Luke Jacobs. Seeing his progression  throughout was awesome.”

“Luke Jacobs has gone on to be an utterly phenomenal talent. I watch him at shows and he just seems to have figured it out. I forget this sometimes, I am absolutely massive so for him to still  be able to throw me around, fair play to Luke.”

“Who could be the next Gunther? It could be Luke Jacobs. There is incredible talent around at  the moment.”

“Leon Slater is someone who we are going to be talking about for decades. I didn’t want to be one of those guys but if he had any questions and he did so it doesn’t surprise me that he’s doing well because he didn’t have the brain of an 18-year-old. He was asking me questions that I  would expect from a 30-year-old. It made me go, OK this guy is going to do pretty well here.”

On the independent circuit, Damo has continued to team with Tischer and has seen great  success worldwide. With PROGRESS Wrestling (https://progresswrestling.com/) he is presently  the only Triple Crown Champion having held the World, Atlas and Tag Team Titles.

“Axel is one of my best friends on earth. We didn’t expect to team much because of the financial aspect. Being realistic we live in different parts of the world. Our final thing in the WWE wasn’t together, and we hadn’t teamed since 2019. Getting to team again with Axel was incredible. I  had to learn a lot about tag wrestling in NXT. The coaches in the PC [Performance Centre] made

it very easy. You are wrestling with The Uso’s and The New Day, some of the best in the world at that time.

“Because of PROGRESS we have actively started teaming everywhere. In the last few months, we have teamed in 12 different promotions in 5 or 6 different countries. I fell in love with  wrestling again in a different way through tag team wrestling.”

“Being able to be the Triple Crown Champion is wild, it’s such a feather in my cap.”

Hooked On Wrestling TV (https://hookedonwrestling.tv/) hosts shows from more than a dozen  independent promotions including PROGRESS, Defy, W3L, Pro Wrestling Cyprus, Romania Pro  Wrestling and many more.
