Just a couple of days after the announcement of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor fight, Showtime has confirmed to The Sporting News that Mauro Ranallo will be calling the action on August 26. I think we all assumed that to be the case since Ranallo is the guy that calls all of the big fights for Showtime but nothing was set in stone and Ranallo had been on Twitter tweeting out his hope to get the gig.
So, it looks like Ranallo is doing very well for himself since leaving WWE. Earlier this week, it was announced that he would join former UFC announcer Mike Goldberg on the announce team for the upcoming Bellator MMA pay-per-view from New York City. Ranallo was also the lead play-by-play announcer for Mayweather’s last fight in 2015 against Manny Pacquiao.
Ranallo was the obvious choice for this fight be cause he is one of the most recognizable voices for MMA and boxing fans. Showtime spokesman Chris DeBlasio also noted that there would be some guest commentators for the Mayweather/McGregor fight.
