Mick Foley: ‘F**k Matt Cardona’

Mick Foley has responded to the latest attempt by Matt Cardona to get some heel heat. Since departing from WWE, Cardona has reinvented himself and put his body through a lot of damage by competing in deathmatches in GCW.

Cardona first said in character, “F**k Mick Foley,” during an interview with Barstool Sports’ Rasslin’ show back in December. He talked about how he would’ve thought Foley would be proud of him as he is a fellow man from Long Island and also worked deathmatches like the former WWE Champion. He claimed his person writer in WWE was Dewey Foley, Mick’s son, and joked that he’s going to have Dewey book him in a death match against Mick then go over.

At Sunday’s The Wrld on GCW pay-per-view from the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, Caronda defeated Joey Janela. Before the match, while making his entrance, Corona had a vest on and the back of it spelled out “F**k Mick Foley.” The vest was also flannel, something Foley made famous during his wrestling career as Cactus Jack.

The WWE Hall of Famer took to YouTube to give his reaction:

“Hello everyone, it’s The Hardcore Legend Mick Foley addressing the Matt Cardona situation. Matt took a shot at Mrs. Foley’s baby boy last night with his interesting choice of ring attire. While I appreciate the GCW fans flipping him off on my behalf, while I appreciate my friend, The Savage Gentlemen, whose wedding I officiated, that is real, wanting to do battle with him on my behalf.

The truth is, from a personal standpoint, I was happy for him. Yeah, it made me laugh because I felt like Matt was done wrong in WWE. He reached for that brass ring, grabbed it, and was asked to return it. Ultimately, everyone who leaves a major company has a choice to make when they hit the independent scene.

And that choice is, ‘Do I just do the same things I did, the things that I was known for, or do I reinvent myself?’ I call that the Drew McIntyre route, the road less traveled. That is what Matt Cardona has done. He’s completely reinvented himself and in doing so has become one of the most enjoyable and valuable assets on the wrestling scene. Knowing that I’m playing just a small part in that reinvention, a tiny part, that makes me happy, and in conclusion, fuck Matt Cardona.”
