NJPW unveils IWGP United States Title, tournament to crown the first champion

New Japan Pro Wrestling unveiled the IWGP United States Championship before the ROH War of the Worlds pay-per-view event on Friday via Twitter. The G1 Special is scheduled to take place on July 1st and 2nd in Long Beach, California. This will be a two-night tournament, and the winner of the tournament will be crowned as the first IWGP United States Champion.

After the news had been announced, it was revealed that former ROH World Champion Jay Lethal is the first participant in the tournament. Lethal then walked to the ring during the War of the Worlds event and cut a promo on how he will become the first NJPW United States Champion.
