The docuseries Dark Side of the Ring has been officially renewed for a seventh season by Vice TV. According to a report from PWInsider on Tuesday, not only is the show coming back, but production on the new season is already underway. The report notes that the series was filming new episodes several weeks ago in Louisville, Kentucky, a city with a storied history in professional wrestling, having been the home of OVW, a developmental territory for WWE for many years.
Dark Side of the Ring, which first premiered in April 2019, has become a cultural phenomenon, drawing in audiences with its deep dives into some of the most infamous and tragic stories in the history of professional wrestling. The show combines archival footage with new, candid interviews with the people who were there, offering a raw look at the darker side of the business. Over its six seasons, the series has covered a wide range of subjects, from the mysterious death of Bruiser Brody to the Montreal Screwjob, the Chris Benoit double murder-suicide, and the tragic passing of Owen Hart.
The most recent season, which premiered in March of this year, continued the show’s tradition of exploring compelling and often-overlooked stories. The sixth season featured episodes on controversial figures like “Superstar” Billy Graham, Ludvig Borga, and Muhammad Hassan, as well as the tragic stories of Billy Jack Haynes and former TNA Knockout, Daffney.
The show’s success has also led to a number of spin-offs from Vice TV, including Dark Side of the 90s, Dark Side of Comedy, and Dark Side of the 2000s, all of which use the same immersive, documentary style to explore the darker aspects of their respective subjects.
