John Layfield could be set to become a full-time talent in pro wrestling again, but it won’t be for WWE. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Juggalo Championship Wrestling (JCW) has been in talks with JBL about him becoming a full-time performer on their weekly show, JCW Lunacy. The former WWE Champion is no stranger to the promotion, having appeared in JCW before, and is already scheduled to be involved at their StrangleMania event over WrestleMania 42 weekend on April 17 at the Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas.
JBL has been active throughout the wrestling world since 2024, appearing in AAA, GCW, MLW, and TNA to deliver his signature Clothesline from Hell. He was even planned to be involved at TNA Slammiversary 2025 until plans ultimately changed. Now, it appears he may be finding a more permanent home with JCW.
Layfield isn’t the only veteran name being targeted. Meltzer reports that two figures from the 1990s are also set to be brought in: former ECW personality Joel Gertner, who will serve as a manager, and former WCW announcer Scott Hudson. Additionally, Jonathan Coachman is set to become a regular character in JCW, further bolstering the promotion’s lineup of recognizable faces.
One of the key figures behind these moves is Vince Russo, who joined JCW as an investor in 2025 and is currently involved in the booking. Russo’s influence seems to be driving the influx of veteran talent as the promotion looks to expand its reach and capitalize on the nostalgia and star power these names bring.
