Kelly Klein has filed an Employment Discrimination lawsuit against ROH as well as their parent company Sinclair Broadcast Group.
Back in 2019, her husband BJ Whitmer came out on Twitter noting that she had been fired even though she was the Women’s Champion at the time. She had been recovering from post-concussion syndrome. ROH later stated in a statement that she was not fired, but rather they decided to not renew her contract. Check out the full story here.
Klein filed the 28-page lawsuit against ROH and Sinclair on February 24th, according to court documents obtained by HeelByNature.com.
The lawsuit outlines the following complaints: Breach of Implied Contract, Unpaid Royalties, Violation of State and Federal Equal Pay Acts, and Abusive Discharge, Discrimination and Harassment, and Unsafe Work Environment.
Various names are listed as parties in the lawsuit including, ROH General Manager Greg Gilliand, booker/ROH dojo trainer Hunter Johnston, ROH COO Joe Koff, and ROH star Jay Lethal.
Klein alleges she was terminated from Ring Of Honor on December 31, 2019 for the following reasons, according to the complaint:
“Plaintiff alleges that the Defendants terminated her contract as of December 31, 2019, because of her complaints regarding the disparate pay for WHO female wrestlers, the lack of safety and medical protocols after Plaintiff suffered the concussion in October of 2019, and the sexual harassment at ROH.”
She also claims that she as well as other wrestlers suffered injuries while working for the promotion due to the defendants’ negligence and illegal actions.
