As many of you know by now, Matt and Jeff Hardy made a surprise appearance at Saturday night’s Manhattan Mayhem show and captured the ROH Tag Team Championships from The Young Bucks. Many of us (including myself) figured that this was a short-term deal since the belief was that they were headed to WWE. They were serious enough about going to WWE that they had told independent promoters that they were not taking any more dates until May.
As it turns out, while there was interest on both sides, ROH apparently offered them a really good money to sign with them. The news was first reported by Dave Meltzer on Sunday’s Wrestling Observer Radio. Meltzer noted that The Hardys were offered a different level of money than they’ve offered anyone and it’s a long-term deal. They also have creative control over their own storylines and they can still continue working independent dates. Matt and Jeff are said to be very happy with the deal and they are very excited about ROH.
That pretty much eliminates all doubt on a WWE run, at least for now. There’s no word on the length of their ROH deal.
