Mauro Ranallo, a voice synonymous with wrestling and combat sports, will be lending his legendary commentary to the upcoming Ring of Honor and Maple Leaf Pro joint event, Global Wars: Canada, next month. As first reported by The Takedown on SI, the former WWE SmackDown and NXT play-by-play announcer will be on the call for the event in Windsor, Ontario, on March 27.
Ranallo will be part of a broadcast team that includes ROH veteran Ian Riccaboni and AEW manager Don Callis. This marks a return to the booth for Ranallo under the Maple Leaf Pro banner, as he last worked with the promotion in May 2025.
AEW and ROH owner Tony Khan expressed his excitement regarding the addition of Ranallo to the broadcast team, noting the standard of excellence the brand strives for. “Ring of Honor has always been defined by excellence both in the ring and on the microphone. Mauro Ranallo’s return alongside Ian Riccaboni and Don Callis brings together three of the best voices in professional wrestling today. Global Wars represents a major moment in the continued partnership between Ring of Honor and Maple Leaf Pro, and we’re proud to present this event to fans around the world on WatchROH.com,” Khan said.
The event is historic for Ranallo, as it marks the first time he has called an event under the ROH or AEW umbrella since his departure from WWE six years ago.
After gaining praise for calling New Japan Pro-Wrestling alongside Josh Barnett in 2015, he was recruited by WWE to lead the SmackDown broadcast team in 2016. He later became the signature voice of the NXT brand from 2017 until his departure in 2020. While the 56-year-old has been the primary voice for MLP since its 2024 start, he continues to juggle commitments in the boxing and MMA worlds. Notably, he will be unable to call MLPW’s Uprising event the day after Global Wars due to a prior commitment to a Premier Boxing Champions broadcast in Las Vegas.
