ROH announced on Wednesday that they would be replacing their Women of Honor Title with a new Women’s Championship.
This comes after the departure of Kelly Klein last year.
The announcement also reveals how they crown their new champion, which will play out in a tournament that starts at the Quest for Gold event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Friday, April 24th at the 2300 Arena.
The tournament will feature eight first-round matches with the winner of it becoming the new ROH Women’s World Champion.
ROH hyped that the title “will take women’s wrestling in ROH to the highest level” and that the tournament “will feature talent from all over the world, including some new faces who have never competed in ROH.”
Klein’s contract expired at the end of December. At the time, her husband, BJ Whitmer, who works behind the scenes for All Elite Wrestling, claimed on Twitter that Klein was fired.
