Rok-C was interviewed on Busted Open Radio to talk about her wrestling career, the recent news about Ring Of Honor, being trained by Booker T and more.
Here are some highlights:
Rok-C was asked what it felt like to capture the ROH Women’s Championship:
“That was so crazy. There were mixed emotions leading up to everyone being backstage. I have this playlist that I used to listen to since I started dreaming of becoming a wrestler. They all reminded me of going after that dream. I remember I was listening to that playlist and I was like, ‘Wow, this is crazy.’ I think what made it even more special was the fact that my mom and my stepdad came into the ring when I won the title. That was special to me because they’ve always been so supportive since the moment that I said, ‘I want to do that when I’m older.’ My mom asked a local wrestling promoter if I could start training at 11. They were like, ‘Well, that’s a little iffy.’ Then she asked again when I was 13, and they said, ‘Ok, bring her in.’ My mom has been my rock throughout my whole journey, as well as my stepdad. I think that moment was perfect.”
Rok-C was asked how she handled the news about ROH taking a hiatus:
“I think I was just mostly a little confused and then shocked. I was like, ‘Wait. What? What’s going on?’ It was very random, but one of my first trainers always made sure to tell me that wrestling is 80% mental and 20% physical, and that wrestling is going to be like a roller coaster. There are going to be times when you’re up here, and then sometimes when you’re down here. You have to keep that mental part really, really strong, because things always end up getting better. I feel like I am just trying to have that mindset right now. The whole Ring of Honor roster is so talented, so I know for a fact that no matter what happens, the whole roster is going to thrive somewhere.”
Roc-C talking about Booker T being one of her trainers:
“I guess when you’re training under someone like Booker T, you have that on your back. Wherever I go, people know that I was trained by Booker T. I feel like it is a lot of pressure, but I do feel like Booker T has helped me so much. I’ve learned so much from him that I know and he knows that I’ll be fine regardless of where I go or who I see or who sees me, because he’s taught me so much. He’s taught me pretty much most of what I know.”
