This past weekend at Ring of Honor’s All-Star Extravaganza IPPV, Michael Elgin lost the heavyweight championship to Jay Briscoe which came as a shock. Elgin hadn’t really been champion that long and was seemingly in the stride of his run, so a title change simply just wasn’t expected.
Today we have learned from multiple sources that taking the belt off Elgin was a last-minute decision, and done because his United States work visa had expired. Apparently, it is going to take around 90 days to renew, which would have left Ring of Honor without a fighting world champion. Furthermore, with multiple upcoming events that is a situation the company couldn’t afford.
