Roman Reigns is the current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion and part of the Samoan Dynasty which includes his cousins, the current Undisputed RAW and SmackDown Tag Team Champion, The Usos, Jimmy & Jey (The 3 of them together are known as The Bloodline). The younger brother of The Usos, Solo Sikoa, is currently working in NXT. Reign’s other cousins include Jacob Fatu (currently wrestling in MLW), Rikishi, The Tonga Kid, and the late Yokozuna and Umaga. Reign’s brother is Rosey. Reign’s father is Sika and his uncle is Afa, together known as The Wild Samoans.
Life Before Wrestling
Reigns had a football career before entering wrestling. He played college football at Georgia Tech where he earned first team ACC in 2006. Undrafted, he went to the Minnesota Vikings in 2007. He was diagnosed with leukemia and was released after a month. He was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars a month before the start of the season, but was released after a week. In 2008, he played for the Edmonton Eskimos in the Canadian Football League. He was later released after four months.
Florida Championship Wrestling
Roman Reigns started in Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW), the precursor to NXT, in 2010. He debuted under the ring name Roman Leakee. On June 15, 2012, Reigns won the FCW Tag-Team Titles with Mike Dalton (later known as Tyler Breeze) by defeating Corey Graves and Jake Carter (who is the son of Vader). They lost the titles July 13, 2012 to CJ Parker (known today as Juice Robinson) and Jason Jordan.
2012: FCW becoms WWE NXT
FCW became known as NXT in August of 2012 and at the same time, Roman changed his last name to Reigns.
2012 - WWE main roster move, the debut of The Shield
Roman Reigns got called up to the main roster along with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose (Jon Moxley) and they made their debut at Survivor Series helping CM Punk retain the WWE Championship in a triple threat match against John Cena and Ryback. Reigns, Rollins, and Ambrose became known as The Shield.
The following month, The Shield made an immediate impact in the ring defeating Ryback and Team Hell No (Daniel Bryan & Kane) in a TLC match.
2013: Various feuds with Ryback, Sheamus, CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Randy Orton and others
The Shield continued their winning ways starting off 2013 by defeating John Cena, Ryback, and Sheamus at The Elimination Chamber PPV. At WrestleMania, they defeated Big Show, Randy Orton and Sheamus. Roman Reigns tasted his first gold when he and Seth Rollins won the RAW Tag Team Titles from Team Hell No at Extreme Rules. They successfully defended those titles at Payback by defeating Daniel Bryan and Orton. On the pre-show to Money in the Bank, they continued their winning ways by defeating The Usos. At Night of Champions, they defeated The Prime Time Players (Titus O’Neil and Darren Young). At Battleground, Reigns and Rollins finally lost to Cody Rhodes and Goldust with the stipulation that if Cody and Goldust won, they would be reinstated by WWE. If Reigns and Rollins won, Dusty would have lost his job as NXT trainer and the Rhodes family would be fired from WWE. This set up a title match between the two teams on the October 14th edition of RAW which saw Cody and Goldust win the tag team titles. Reigns and Rollins failed to regain the tag titles at Hell in a Cell in a triple threat match over them and The Usos. The Shield teamed with the Real Americans (Cesaro & Jack Swagger) in a traditional 5 on 5 match at Survivor Series by defeating Cody Rhodes, Goldust, Rey Mysterio and The Usos. They ended the year on a losing note when CM Punk defeated all three members of The Shield in a handicap match when Punk pinned Ambrose.
2014: The Shield feuds with The Wyatt Family, New Age Outlaws, Evolution
Roman Reigns began 2014 by being the second to last participant in The Royal Rumble when Batista eliminated him. The Shield began a feud with The Wyatt Family (Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, and Erick Rowan) and they lost the first match to them at Elimination Chamber. They regained their winning ways at WrestleMania 30 by defeating The New Age Outlaws (Billy Gunn and Road Dogg) & Kane. At Extreme Rules, The Shield defeated the reunited team of Evolution (Batista, Randy Orton, and Triple H). At Payback, Roman Reigns found himself in his first PPV main event as The Shield once again defeated Evolution, this time in a No Hold Barred match.
The Breakup of The Shield
Seth Rollins turned on Reigns shortly after Payback, and the 3-man team of The Shield were no more. At Money in the Bank, Roman Reigns was in his first WWE Title match on PPV, but was unsuccessful in an 8-man Ladder match for the WWE Title that also included Alberto Del Rio, Bray Wyatt, Cesaro, Kane, Randy Orton, Sheamus, and the winner of the match, John Cena. At Battleground, once again he was unsuccessful in his quest for the WWE Title as Cena retained in a Fatal Four way with Reigns, Orton, and Kane. He won over Orton at SummerSlam.
Roman Reigns gets hernia surgery
Rollins walked down the aisle to claim his victory at Night of Champions via forfeit over Roman Reigns, who had been rushed to the hospital for an emergency hernia operation to close out his 2014.
Roman Reigns returns in 2015 after recovering from hernia surgery
Roman Reigns returned to action and won the Royal Rumble, giving him an opportunity to wrestle for the WWE Title at WrestleMania 31. At Fastlane, he successfully put up the number one contender’s spot against Daniel Bryan. Reigns got his first one on one PPV Title Match Main Event against the champion, Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 31, however, Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase by inserting himself in the match while in progress and pinned Reigns to win the championship.
At Extreme Rules, Reigns defeated Big Show in a Last Man Standings match. At Payback, Reigns returned to the title picture, seeking to get revenge on Seth Rollins, however, Rollins retained the title in a Fatal 4-Way match over Reigns, Ambrose, and Orton. At Payback, he was unsuccessful in the Money in the Bank match involving himself, Dolph Ziggler, Kane, Kofi Kingston, Neville, and the winner, Sheamus. He lost another match at Battleground to Bray Wyatt. Dean Ambrose and Reigns teamed up to defeat Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper at SummerSlam. The Wyatts and Reigns feud continued into Night of Champions when Reigns, Ambrose, and Chris Jericho were defeated by Braun Strowman, Wyatt, and Harper. The feud culminated in a Hell in the Cell when Reigns defeated Wyatt. The WWE Champion Seth Rollins had to vacate the title when he suffered a legitimate knee injury, putting him out of action. A match was signed for the vacant title at Survivor Series which saw Reigns finally emerged victorious over Ambrose for his first WWE Championship, however, Sheamus cashed in his Money in the Bank and pinned Reigns right after the match to become the new champion. Reigns was unsuccessful in trying to win the title back from Sheamus at TLC. Three weeks later on RAW, Reigns regained the title from Sheamus.
Roman Reigns at Royal Rumble 2016
At Royal Rumble, the WWE Title was on the line in the Royal Rumble match with the winner being the champion. It came down to Triple H and Reigns with Triple H throwing out Reigns to become the new champion. At Fastlane, Reigns defeated Brock Lesnar and Dean Ambrose in a triple threat match to become the number one contender to the WWE Title at WrestleMania 32. Reigns went on to defeat Triple H at WrestleMania 32. He went on to defeat AJ Styles at Payback in a NO DQ match, as well as an Extreme Rules match at Extreme Rules. This title run came to an end at Money in the Bank when he lost the title to Seth Rollins, who in turn, lost to Ambrose, who cashed in his Money in the Bank he won earlier in the show. At Battleground, we saw all three of the former Shield members battle it out with Ambrose retaining the title in a Triple Threat match against Reigns and Rollins. Reigns won the U.S. Championship from Rusev at Clash of Champions and defeated him in a rematch at Hell in a Cell. He lost at Survivor Series as part of Team RAW with partners Bron Strowman, Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens, and Seth Rollins to Team SmackDown (AJ Styles, Bray Wyatt, Dean Ambrose, Randy Orton, and Shane McMahon). He finished the year by losing to The Universal Champion Kevin Owens at Roadblock.
2017: Roman Reigns loses U.S. Title to Chris Jericho, match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33
Reigns lost the U.S. Title to Chris Jericho on the January 9, 2017 episode of Monday Night Raw. At the Royal Rumble, it came down to Randy Orton and Reigns with Orton throwing out Reigns to win the match. He defeated Braun Strowman at Fastlane. He beat The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33, handing The Undertaker only his second loss at WrestleMania. Strowman beat Reigns at Payback. Reigns came up short in a 5-Way Extreme match with Samoa Joe, Finn Balor, Seth Rollins and Bray Wyatt at Extreme Rules and fell short against Strowman at Great Balls of Fire. He also came up short in a Fatal 4-Way match at SummerSlam with Stowman and Joe, all failing to beat the WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar. Reigns broke out of his losing streak against John Cena at No Mercy. Reigns had a viral infection and had to be removed from the TLC match. He returned at Survivor Series with a reunited Shield that beat The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods). The day after Survivor Series, Roman Reigns won the Intercontinental Championship from The Miz on Monday Night Raw.
2018: Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 34, various feuds
On the January 22, 2019 edition of RAW, titled, “RAW 25 Years”, The Miz regained the Intercontinental Title from Roman Reigns. Reigns was once again the second to last person left in the Royal Rumble, this time the winner being Shinsuke Nakamura. At Elimination Chamber, Reigns defeated Braun Strowman, Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, John Cena, Elias, and The Miz in the Chamber to earn a shot at the WWE Universal Title at WrestleMania 34. Brock Lesnar retained the title over Reigns at WrestleMania 34. Reigns lost to Lesnar again in a title match at The Greatest Royal Rumble. He then went on to beat Samoa Joe at Backlash, Jinder Mahal at Money in the Bank. He lost to Lashley at Extreme Rules, but followed that up with winning the WWE Universal Championship from Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. He successfully defended the title against Strowman in a Hell in a Cell Match. The Shield once again formed a team to defeat Strowman, Dolph Ziggler, and Drew McIntyre at Super Show-Down.
Roman Reigns announces he has leukemia
On the October 22nd episode of RAW, Reigns relinquished the title announcing he had leukemia which had been in remission since 2008.
2019: Roman Reigns beats cancer, feud with Baron Corbin
On the February 15, 2019 edition of RAW, Reigns announced his leukemia is in remission and he would return to action. The Shield defeated Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley, and Drew McIntyre at Fastlane. He defeated McIntyre at WrestleMania 35 and Elias at Money in the Bank. Reigns lost to Shane McMahon at Super ShowDown. He beat McIntyre at Stomping Grounds. Reigns teamed with The Undertaker to defeat Shane McMahon and McIntyre at Extreme Rules in a No Hold Barred match. Erick Rowan defeated Reigns in a No DQ match at Clash of Champions. Reigns teamed with Daniel Bryan to defeat Erick Rowan and Luke Harper in a Tornado tag team match. Team Hogan (Reigns, Rusev, Ricochet, Shorty G, and Ali) defeated Team Flair (Randy Orton, King Corbin, Bobby Lashley, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Seth Rollins) at Crown Jewel. Reigns found himself in another 10-man tag team match as he was part of Team SmackDown with Strowman, Corbin, Ali, and Short G defeating Team RAW consisting of Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, Kevin Owens, Randy Orton, and Ricochet and followed it up with a win over Corbin at Starrcade. Corbin gained revenge by defeating Reigns in a TLC Match at the TLC PPV.
2020: Reigns runner-up in the Royal Rumble again
Once again Reigns was the second to last finalist in the Royal Rumble with Drew McIntyre winning the Rumble. Reigns beat King Corbin in a cage at Super ShowDown.
Roman Reigns pulls out of WWE WrestleMania main event due to COVID-19
The plan for WrestleMania 36 was Roman Reigns vs Goldberg. However, COVID started plaguing the world, and Reigns asked to be removed from the match and future plans as he was at high risk with his previous leukemia issues.
Roman Reigns returns at SummerSlam 2020 and becomes The Tribal Chief
At SummerSlam, Bray Wyatt defeated Brawn Strowman to win the WWE Universal Championship. After the match, Reigns returned and speared both men, thus turning heel and took on Paul Heyman as his manager. At Payback, Reigns defeated Wyatt and Strowman in a No Hold Barred Triple Threat Match to win the WWE Universal Championship. He would go on to defeat Jey Uso at Clash of Champions and again at Hell in a Cell in an I Quit match. On the October 30th episode of SmackDown, Jey Uso finally turned heel at Reign’s request and attacked Daniel Bryan and in the process, became Reigns' right hand man. Reigns defeated Drew McIntyre at Survivor Series, and Kevin Owens at TLC.
2021: Roman Reigns begins to form The Bloodline with The Usos
Reigns would continue to defend the WWE Universal Title defeating Kevin Owens at Royal Rumble. He defeated Edge and Daniel Bryan in a Triple Threat Match at WrestleMania Night 2. He followed that up with wins over Cesaro at WrestleMania Backlash, Edge at Money in the Bank. Jimmy Uso finally returned to action after being out with an injury. He was embarrassed that Jey had become Reign’s flunkie, but on July the July 9th episode of SmackDown, Jimmy reunited with Jey and together with Reigns became known as The Bloodline. Reigns defeated John Cena at SummerSlam, Finn Balor at Extreme Rules in an Extreme Rules match, Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel, and Big E at Survivor Series.
2022: Roman Reigns tests positive for COVID-19
At WWE Day 1, Roman Reigns was supposed to wrestle Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship. However, Reigns tested positive for COVID the day of the show. Lesner was inserted into the WWE Championship match in a 5-way with the champion Big E, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, and Bobby Lashley ending with Lesnar winning the WWE Title.

Reigns returned at the Royal Rumble to defend the WWE Universal title against Seth Rollins. Reigns lost by DQ. He went on to defeat Goldberg at Elimination Chamber. He unified the WWE Universal Championship and WWE Championship by defeating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38 to become the Unified WWE Universal Champion. At WrestleMania Backlash, he teamed with The Usos as The Bloodline defeated Drew McIntyre, Riddle, and Randy Orton.
