Tessa Blanchard was back in the news this week when it was announced that she would be returning to the ring to work a match, the first time in months, this coming Saturday.
She’ll be defending the Warrior Wrestling Women’s Title against Kylie Rae at Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, IL.
Blanchard’s departure from Impact Wrestling was widely covered at the time, but Dave Meltzer mentioned an interesting detail about it in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Meltzer wrote, “The belief from those at Impact is that Blanchard didn’t sign a new deal (technically she was let go and stripped of her Impact title days before the deal expired) as they believed she had a better offer elsewhere.”
Back in June, the promotion terminated their relationship with Blanchard and stripped her of the Impact World Championship. Blanchard had not appeared at a taping since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite this, the company continued to work with her as she was scheduled to return at the Slammiversary pay-per-view where she would have put the Impact World Championship on the line against Trey Miguel, Eddie Edwards, Ace Austin and Michael Elgin.
There had been issues between the two sides after she didn’t send in a required promo from Mexico.
When she departed from Impact, it was reported that other promotions such as WWE had an interest in signing her.
