TNA World Heavyweight Champion Eddie Edwards recently spoke with Justin Barrasso of SI.com about his career and more. During the interview, he was asked about facing Bobby Lashley at Total Nonstop Deletion. He stated that when he first started wrestling at Killer Kowalski’s wrestling school, he never thought would be wrestling a match on top of a volcano built by Jeff Hardy. He said that the experience was other-worldly and that being in the Dome of Deletion at Matt Hardy’s compound was like being in another world. He noted that his match with Lashley was technically a no contest, but it’s possible that the two may still be fighting.
When asked if Kevin Owens is the best wrestler in WWE and if he compares himself to other world champions. He said that Owens is a good dude despite who he portrays on TV. He noted that Owens reached out to him when he broke his heel and that he texted Owens when he won the World Title. “Owens is incredible, but look at a guy like John Cena who has been doing this for so long and is still killing the game, and there is also AJ Styles and Seth Rollins. The WWE has so much talent, but TNA has a loaded roster, too.” He said that Lashley is a beast and a good dude. Edwards thinks that TNA is doing it better than anybody in pro wrestling company right now and said that he doesn’t compare himself to other world champions. He noted that he competes with himself and that being champion comes with added pressure. “I want to have the best matches and deliver the most memorable moments. I want to be Mr. TNA, and I’m always trying to watch and learn and step up my game.”
Edwards also talked about his goals for 2017 and more. You can read the entire interview here.
