Following their emotional final match against The Dudley Boyz (Team 3D) at TNA’s Bound For Glory pay-per-view, Matt and Jeff Hardy have opened up about their own mortality and longevity in the world of professional wrestling. In a conversation with Justin Barrasso of Undisputed, the iconic tag team reflected on their journey, the toll it has taken on their bodies, and the mindset that has allowed them to continue performing at a high level.
“The biggest difference between then and now is Father Time,” said Matt Hardy. “The amount of abuse we’ve put our bodies through.” Jeff Hardy was even more candid, admitting that he is surprised to have made it this far. “Tell you the truth, I didn’t think I’d be alive in 2025,” he said.
He credited a new wellness routine, including daily cold plunges, with helping him stay in shape both mentally and physically after a notoriously wild past. “It was madness back in the early 2000s,” he added.
The match at Bound For Glory was billed as the final encounter between two of the three teams that revolutionized tag team wrestling in the Attitude Era. After the match, which saw The Hardys retain their TNA and NXT World Tag Team Championships, Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley left their boots in the ring, signifying their retirement as a team.
Matt Hardy spoke about the special bond that the two teams have shared over the years. “We created so many special moments over so many years,” he said. “We’ve worked so closely together that that chemistry is closely ingrained in all of us.”
With their legendary rivals now retired, The Hardy Boyz are in the midst of another career renaissance as the reigning tag team champions of both TNA and NXT. Their contracts with TNA Wrestling are reportedly slated to expire soon.
