In a new documentary covering the Slammiversary pay-per-view, WWE superstar AJ Styles has reflected on his emotional return to TNA Wrestling. “The Phenomenal One” stated that he would have remained with the company “forever” if circumstances had been different and teased a potential future match.
‘This Was My First Love’
In the documentary footage, Styles discussed the feeling of returning to TNA for the first time since 2013 to embrace the new X-Division Champion, Leon Slater. He spoke about his deep connection to the company.
“It’s like the first girl you’ve ever loved, right? She’s always gonna be special to you. This was my first love,” Styles said. “I would have been here forever, had things not went the way that it did… I hope there’s something special as far as a match goes but I can’t promise that.”
Praise For The New TNA Locker Room
Styles, who was the first-ever TNA X-Division Champion, also praised the cultural shift he has seen in the company’s locker room. He noted a renewed sense of unity and support among the talent.
“That was the first time in a long time I’ve seen the whole company watching the same match because they were so interested in what’s going to happen,” he observed. “They’re pulling for each other, you want that. You don’t have to worry about people stabbing each other in the back to get to the top… That’s how you become a successful company.”
While Styles reflected on his TNA past, his present in WWE is heating up ahead of SummerSlam. “The Phenomenal One” is scheduled to challenge Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship at the premium live event this coming weekend. On last night’s go-home episode of Monday Night Raw, Styles gained significant momentum by pinning the champion in a six-person tag team match.
“I can tell you this, I was very excited. Even I had the butterflies tonight.” @AJStylesOrg reflects on his return to TNA on the incredible Slammiversary: Fade to Black, available now for TNA+ annual VIP subscribers.
