TNA star AJ Francis has his sights set on a major WWE NXT championship. During a recent appearance on the “Muscle Memory” YouTube channel, Francis issued a direct challenge to the reigning NXT Champion, Oba Femi, proposing a major crossover match between the two powerhouse athletes.
When asked by Malcolm who he would want to face if he were to appear on NXT television again, Francis didn’t hesitate to name the brand’s top champion. “I’ve been saying Oba. I’ve been saying that,” he confirmed. Scroll down to watch the interview, scroll further to read more.Â
Francis explained the logic behind the potential matchup, pointing to the current working relationship between WWE and TNA, which has seen TNA World Champion Trick Williams appear on and defend his title on NXT programming. “Currently the TNA World Champion is a person who’s contracted [to] NXT… it wouldn’t be too crazy of an idea for the NXT world champion to be contracted to TNA,” he reasoned.
He then launched into a promo directly targeting the dominant NXT Champion. “I know that Oba be bullying these other boys, but he can’t bully me,” Francis declared. “He can’t push me around like he do these other boys. He can’t throw me around like he do these other boys. I’m bigger than him. He’s stronger than him.”
Francis acknowledged some of Femi’s attributes but was confident about the outcome of a potential match. “I don’t have as good an accent as him… He got better hair than me. Yeah, okay. But we talking about in that ring. Come on, man, me and Oba. Let’s talk about it,” he said. He concluded by vowing to bring the title to his home promotion: “Shout out Trick Willie, let me go… I’m gonna put Oba out of commission. I’m gonna make sure that we can have an NXT champion that TNA could be proud of.”
