Alexander Gustafsson says that he almost retired after his loss to Anthony Johnson

Alexander Gustafsson was destined to fight Jon Jones again for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship following his fight at UFC on Fox 14. However, in his hometown, in front of 30,000 of his own, Anthony Johnson ruined that plan and finished him.

“It has definitely been my most difficult period in life so far,” Gustafsson told Swedish newspaper Expressen. “I was completely serious about quitting MMA. I don’t care really about the title, it was that it happened in front of my home crowd. My cousins were in place. It just took it too hard. I didn’t have the will to continue. I was really close to quitting. But I have received so much love from fans, loved ones and my team.”

UFC On Fox 14 went down on Saturday, Jan. 24 at Tele2 Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. The main card aired on FOX while the prelims aired on Fox Sports 1 and Fight Pass.
