Impact Wrestling World Champion Bobby Lashley recently spoke with MMAjunkie about his MMA career and more. During the interview, he was asked about possibly fighting MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko in Bellator MMA. He noted that he thinks that every heavyweight wants to get the opportunity to fight Emelianenko before he retires for good.
Emelianenko was supposed to fight this past weekend at Bellator 172 against former UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione but Mitrione pulled out of the fight the day of the bout due to kidney stones. Lashley noted that would like to fight Emelianenko after the MMA legend fights Mitrione. “After he fights him, hopefully they open the doors for me.”
For years now, fans have talked about a possible fight between Lashley and former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar. However, the chances of that fight happening are slim due to Lesnar recently retiring from MMA after failing his drug tests that were collected on June 28, and July 9 for anti-estrogen drugs called clomiphene and hydroxy-clomiphene surrounding his fight at UFC 200 last July against Mark Hunt.
Lashley said that he thinks the door is shut on a fight with Lesnar. He noted that he would like to say it’s not shut but thinks that it is due to WWE taking good care of Lesnar right now because he is a huge star for them. He said that if they’re taking care of him there’s no real reason for him to keep stepping back over into the MMA world. “He made a huge paycheck on his last, so I don’t think he even wants to come back and do anything anymore.”
