The biggest pay-per-view star today in boxing kicked off a new phase Canelo Alvarez’s career on Saturday night in his first fight on the DAZN streaming platform. The unified middleweight champion moved up in weight to challenge WBA “regular” super middle weight champion Rocky Fielding in Madison Square Garden.
Alvarez was coming off his fight with Gennady Golovkin just three months ago. The fight against Fielding is expected to be a one-off and he is expected to move back down to 168 pounds. Alvarez went into this fight as the heavy favorite. Alvarez had a brace on his left leg.
Round 1 – Fielding took a body shot with about a minute left in the first round and he went down to a knee but was back up to finish the round. Alvarez 10-9.
Round 2 – more of the same with Alvarez dominating Fielding. There was another body shot that caused Fielding to go down on one knee. 10-9 Alvarez.
Round 3 – more hard shots from Alvarez to start the round. Fielding answered with some punches but Alvarez came back. Fielding not looking good in this fight. Alvarez landed a hard right hand with 45 seconds in the round. Fielding went down but was up and then he took another body blow and went to a knee. The referee called the fight.
Total dominance from Alvarez.
Alvarez has 10 more fights to go on the current deal with DAZN.
