Chris Camozzi: “I’ve got everything to gain, and ‘Jacare’ has everything to lose”

Chris Camozzi is scheduled to fight Ronaldo Souza this Saturday at UFC on Fox 15 and spoke about stepping in for an injured Yoel Romero on less than a week’s notice for this fight.

“I’ve got everything to gain, and ‘Jacare’ has everything to lose,” Camozzi said on Wednesday before reporters during open workouts. “I don’t understand why guys wouldn’t take this fight. We’re paid to fight, not get sponsors and post on social media. Our main job is to fight. All that other stuff is extra. When you’re called to fight, you should fight. For me, everything’s upwards from here.”

Chris Camozzi (20-9) 5 KO, 7 Sub & 8 DEC wins. Camozzi is currently on a one fight winning streak heading into UFC on Fox 15. In his last five bouts, he is 1-4, three of those losses come by decision and one of those losses come by triangle choke. He lost to Ronaldo Souza by first round triangle choke in May of 2013, then lost to Lorenz Larkin by unanimous decision in November of 2013. He lost back to back fights by split decision to Bruno Santos at UFC 175 and then to Rafael Natal in September of 2014. He beat Jeremy Kimball by first round rear-naked-choke in November of 2014.

“I talked to my management and everybody, and they all said, ‘This is a chance you can’t pass up,’” he said. “He’s the No. 1 contender. It’s a good opportunity for me to jump the ranks.

We will be providing live play-by-play coverage of UFC on Fox 15 on Saturday starting at 4:15PM EST.
