It looks like Khabib Nurmagomedov was set off by an insult about his religion and that is what prompted him to attack one of Conor McGregor’s teammates at UFC 229, according to what sources at cageside said to TMZ Sports.
Dillion Danis, McGregor’s teammate, was running his mouth throughout the fight, according to a fan that was sitting nearby. Apparently, in between the 2nd and 3rd round, Khabib looked at Danis’ direction and it was clear that he could hear the insults being hurled in his direction.
However, the final straw was when Danis alleged called him a “f**king Muslim rat” at the end of the fight. That is when Khabib threw his mouthpiece at Danis and then jumped out of the cage to attack him.
This follows McGregor’s attacks at Khabib’s religion. For weeks, McGregor was calling Khabib a “rat” and hurled insults at his father during the build-up to the fight. It is clear that what happened on Saturday was building for a long time.
Nurmagomedov has yet to be paid for the fight and Dana White says the Nevada State Athletic Commission may end up keeping his entire purse — $2 million – because of the post-fight brawl.
