The biggest fight ever in UFC history took place on Saturday night as Conor McGregor took on Khabib Nurmagomedov for the UFC Lightweight Championship.
Both men got bigger big-time entrances with lasers and smoke in the Octagon. McGregor’s whiskey company “Proper Twelve” was listed as one of the sponsors on the mat as part of his new deal with the company.
Round 1. McGregor got in a couple of shots on Khabib but things changed when the fight got to the ground. Khabib dominated the round on top of McGregor. Dominik Cruz pointed out that McGregor did not waste energy and barely took damage while Khabib was on top of him.
Round 2 started with McGregor taking a vicious knee that rocked him and McGregor came back with a knee but Khabib put him down on the mat and against the fence. Khabib rained with punches and nasty elbows and it was up against the cage so McGregor could barely move. Khabib covered McGregor on the ground and almost locked in a kimura. McGregor finally got himself up but he was breathing hard. Likely a 10-8 round for Khabib.
Round 3. McGregor got some strikes to start the round as it looked like Khabib was breathing hard. McGregor stuffed a takedown attempt and then landed a right hand. Khabib also landed a big right hand. Konor hit a knee to the body and an uppercut. Both men traded punches. Khabib could not take McGregor down. Looks like 10-9 for McGregor.
Round 4. Conor looks composed. He landed the first punch of the round and followed up with front kicks. Khabib was able to take Conor down to the ground. He got full mount and then on McGregor’s back into a choke. McGregor tapped out.
Khabib ran into the crowd and after McGregor’s team. All hell broke loose. Someone attacked McGregor in the cage. Dana White said he wasn’t going to put Khabib’s belt on him. Police escorted Khabib out of the arena.
