Mirko Filipovic (30-11) 22 KOs, 5 Subs & 3 DEC wins is scheduled to fight #14 Gabriel Gonzaga (16-9) 7 KOs, 9 Subs & 0 DEC wins this Saturday at UFC Fight Night 64 and recently spoke about the upcoming fight.
“I’m 40 and I feel good,” he said. “I train very hard, I’m very disciplined, I’m professional, and I feel really good. But I’m real with everything, and if I don’t believe I can beat people that are put in front of me, I wouldn’t go on this adventure. Believe me I wouldn’t. That’s how I feel. I think that every man needs to stand hard with both feet on the ground and be realistic, and I think I am.”
This is Filipovic first fight back in the UFC since UFC 137. He is currently on a two fight winning streak prior to UFC Fight Night 64. He lost to Roy Nelson at UFC 137 by third round TKO. He left the UFC and went to the IGF promotion. He beat Shinichi Suzukawa by first round armbar in December of 2012, but then lost to Alexey Olenik in November of 2013 by first round neck crank. Filipovic has since rattled off two second round TKO over Satoshi Ishii in August and then over Ishii again in December.
“Of course there is no guarantee that you will beat anyone in the UFC. They’re all tough fighters, but I have a good chance to beat anyone, and for me that’s enough.”
UFC Fight Night 64 takes place on Saturday (April 11) at Krakow Arena in Krakow, Poland on UFC Fight Pass.
