Former MMA fighter War Machine (real name Jonathan Paul Koppenhaver) appeared in court in Las Vegas on Friday to address his attempted murder charges. He is accused of beating his girlfriend and adult film star Christy Mack. Prosecutors played the 911 call in court on Friday. War Machine laughed and smiled while Mack testified about the abuse she went through during the relationship. Mack had missing and broken teeth, a lacerated liver, a broken nose, among other injuries from the beating. She also said that she feared that he would kill her.
Mack broke down while she recounted the beating from Koppenhaver. “I couldn’t breathe,” she said. “I don’t remember getting out of the shower. I just remember being on the floor. Naked on the floor. Cold.” She also said that the knife broke as Koppenhaver cut her hair and wigs. She fled when she heard him rummaging through the kitchen drawers looking for another knife.
Koppenhaver did not testify on Friday. His attorney Brandon Sua said on Thursday at the arraignment that he will plead not guilty. He has 34 felony charges including attempted murder, kidnapping, and sexual assault. He faces life in jail if he is convicted.
