Paige VanZant believes her fight with Felice Herrig could be fight of the night

Paige VanZant is scheduled to fight Felice Herrig this Saturday at UFC on Fox 15 and she recently spoke about the upcoming fight.

“I feel like I’ve done that in all of my fights where I go out there and immediately attack,” VanZant said. “I think that’s because I go out there for a war. I go out there to really fight somebody. Maybe it will happen later in my career that I will feel my opponents out in the first round, but now, I go in there to finish the fight right away. I feel very comfortable doing that. I believe I have good enough cardio where I can go out and go 100% right at the beginning of the bout, and I can push it and last all three rounds. I do work my cardio enough to keep it up.”

Paige VanZant (4-1) 1 KO, 1 Subs & 2 Dec wins. She is currently on a two fight winning streak and is making her second UFC appearance at UFC on Fox 15. She beat Jordan Nicole Gaza in June of 2012 by split decision in her MMA debut. She beat Amber Stautzenberger in September of 2012 by unanimous decision. Her first loss came to erica Torres in January of 2013 by unanimous decision, but rebounded with a win over Courtney Himes in April of 2013 by first round rear-naked-choke. In her next/latest bout, she beat Kailin Curran by third round TKO in November of 2014 at UFC Fight Night: Edgar vs. Swanson.

“I think she’s an awesome opponent,” VanZant said. “Stylistically, we should put on an exciting fight. Felice has awesome Muay Thai. I don’t know what I would say I’m awesome at (laughs). I just think stylistically it is a very good matchup and we’ll see. I’m excited for this fight and I train for the fight to go the distance. I have never been finished and while I plan to go to the distance, I always go for a finish. You have to know that there is always the opportunity it will go all 15 minutes. With us both having awesome conditioning, even if it goes the full 15 minutes, it will be exciting to the very end. It has Fight of the Night potential.”

Felice Herrig (10-5) 1 KO, 3 Subs & 6 Dec wins. She is 4-1 in her last five bouts and currently riding a one fight winning streak. She beat Simona Soukupova in August of 2012 by unanimous decision, then Patricia Vidonic in december of 2012 under the Bellator MMA banner and then beat Heather Clark in March of 2013 while still being in Bellator by split decision. She fought and lost in her next bout while in Inicia FC against Tecia Torres by  unanimous decision. In her next/latest bout, she beat Lisa Ellis in her UFC debut at the TUF 20 Finale last december by second round armbar.

We will be providing live play-by-play coverage of UFC on Fox 15 on Saturday starting at 4:15PM EST.
