PHOTOS: CM Punk appears at UFC 185, Rafael Dos Anjos defeats Anthony Pettis for the UFC Lightweight Championship

CM Punk walked Anthony Pettis out to the Octagon at Saturday night’s UFC 185 in Dallas, Texas.

Just prior to the pay-per-view on Fox Sports 1, Ariel Helwani told viewers that Punk would be walking Pettis to the cage but would not be cageside during the fight. UFC and Fox Sports were smart to mention Punk. I don’t know if that helped some extra pay-per-view buys for the show but you never know so it’s good that he was mentioned. Punk was not mentioned by name during the pay-per-view broadcast.

Anthony Pettis was interviewed by before his fight at UFC 185 and was asked about Punk’s attitude and noted Punk surprised him in a good way:

“Yes for sure. I just didn’t know what to expect. You see him on TV. I met him a couple times. You really don’t know what to expect from anybody. He came into the gym, you come into the practice room and you have two world champions on the floor, you have CM Punk, you have one of the most Olympic level wrestlers and everybodies is just training together. Everybody blends in and there’s no superstar. There’s no one person who gets more attention. Its just a team full of guys that all want to get better.”

Rafael Dos Anjos easily defeated Anthony Petis by dominating him in all 5 rounds of the fight to capture the UFC Lightweight Championship. Dos Anjos won all five rounds.
