Ronaldo Souza (22-3) commented about Luke Rockhold getting a middleweight title shot over him against Chris Weidman during the UFC 190 media day.
“I don’t think it’s fair. I thought that Rockhold should get past by me to fight for the title, or wait before I get my shot at the title. That’s the reality, there’s no other way, but unfortunately it happened this way and we have to do one more fight. I don’t think (Rockhold) fought tougher fighters, I don’t know why people say that,” he continued. “He fought Tim Boetsch, who has more holes in his game than a Swiss cheese. He fought Costa Philippou, who can’t stop a takedown – but his merits for beating him standing. I fought Okami, who is tougher than them. I fought Mousasi, who is as tough as Lyoto – and he did a great job. And he fought Belfort, and I don’t even need to comment on that.”
Souza is currently on an eight-fight winning streak. He has finished five out of his last six fights, four coming by submission and one coming by knockout. He beat Ed Herman in Strikeforce in January of 2013 by first-round kimura. He made his UFC debut against Chris Camozzi, which he won by first round triangle choke in May of 2013. In his next three bouts he beat Yushin Okami in September of 2013 by first round TKO, then beat Francis Carmont in February of 2014 by unanimous decision. In his next and last bout prior to UFC on Fox 15, he beat Gegard Mousasi in September of 2014 by third-round guillotine choke. In his last bout, he is coming off a win over Chris Camozzi at UFC on Fox 15.
