Stephen Thompson knocks out Jake Ellenberger with a spinning back kick at the TUF 21 Finale

The Ultimate Fighter: American Top Team vs. Blackzilians Finale took place on Sunday, July 12, 2015, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

A welterweight bout between Jake Ellenberger and Stephen Thompson was the main event.
The event aired on Fox Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Jake Ellenberger (30-10) is currently on a one-fight losing streak. In his last six bouts, he’s 3-3. He beat Nate Marquardt at UFC 158 by first-round knockout but then dropped three straight bouts. He lost to Rory Macdonald in July of 2013 by unanimous decision, then was knocked out at UFC 173 by Robbie Lawler and finished by Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 180 by first-round rear naked choke. He rebounded with a submission victory over Josh Koscheck at UFC 184. He was knocked out by Stephen Thompson in the first round at the TUF 21 Finale.

Stephen Thompson (11-1) is currently on a five-fight winning streak. In his last six bouts, he’s 5-1. He lost to Matt Brown at UFC 145 by unanimous decision but rebounded with four straight wins. He beat Nah-Shon Burrell at UFC 160 by unanimous decision then won his next two bouts by knockout. He beat Chris Clements at UFC 165 in the second-round and then Robert Whittaker at UFC 170 in the first-round. He then beat Patrick Cote at UFC 178 by unanimous decision. He knocked out Jake Ellenberger in the first round at the TUF 21 Finale.

Round 1: Both fighters using a ton of kicks to start the fight off. Ellenberger caught him with a left hook that dropped Thompson. Ellenberger clinches and puts Thompson on the fence. They exchange strikes while in the clinch. Ellenberger with a trip takedown, but Thompson scrambled and got the back of Ellenberger. Thompson worked him over with strikes as Ellenberger attempts to make it back to his feet. Moments later, Ellenberger does make it to his feet. Thompson caught Ellenberger with a straight left then fired away. Thompson with a spinning back fists that dropped Ellenberger. Ellenberger back to his feet, but is hurt. Thompson with a spinning back kick and that puts the lights out for Ellenberger.
