Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz is slated to fight former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio, also known as Alberto El Patron.
The two fighters are slated to meet under the Combate Americas banner on December 7 at the Payne Arena in Hidalgo, Texas on pay-per-view for $39.99.
The two fighters confirmed in an interview with MMA Junkie that they have agreed to a side bet. This bet will see them put their respective belts (UFC and WWE) on the line.
That means if Del Rio wins, he gets Ortiz’s UFC light heavyweight title while if Ortiz wins then he gets Del Rio’s WWE Title.
Ortiz: “I want to put my belt up just because I’m a huge WWE fan, and I’ve always wanted a heavyweight world title. I’ve always wanted that heavyweight world title. I mean, I remember back in the day watching Hulk Hogan carrying the world title, being the world champion, to Dwayne Johnson, ‘The Rock,’ being the world champion. I was like, ‘Man, if I ever had the opportunity to go to the WWE, I know I can be world champion, too.’”
Del Rio: “To be honest, that’s a fantastic idea. I know he’s not too bright, but in this one, it was his idea. He came up with the idea, and it’s a fantastic one. I wish it would have been me that said, ‘Hey let’s put the titles on the line.’”
